Pennridge FISH (Fellowship in Serving Humanity)
Mission Statement
Pennridge FISH Organization is a non-profit organization created to serve the needs of the low income families in the Pennridge School District. It was organized by the Pennridge Ministerial Association of community churches. The "Emergency Food Asistance Program" (TEFAP) supported by the Bucks County Opportunity Council, Inc., defines the income guidelines for low income families based on income and family size. Pennridge FISH Organization uses the guidelines defined by TEFAP. History FISH began in Oxford, England in 1961 and was started in the United States in 1964 by an Episcopal priest, Rev. Robert Lee Howell.
"The FISH" is a group of Christian people who want to show their love and concern through action. Our sole purpose is to offer a helping hand to those who experience day to day problems and don't know where to turn for help. A volunteer need not worry that he will be asked to serve beyond his ability or desire. From the earliest times the fish has been the symbol of Christianity. The Greek word for fish is an Ichtus acrostic that means, "Jesus Christ, God's Son, Savior". In the early Church, especially during the time of the Roman persecution, to draw a fish in the sand was to reveal one's identity as a Christian. When Christ called Peter and Andrew He said, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men".
